Funeral Notice

 

Mrs. Sonja Jones Ware, 74, of Camp Hill died Friday, August 25, 2017 at Phenix City Health Care, Phenix City, AL.  Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer District Center, 1296 Newell St., Camp Hill on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. (CST) with Rev. Willie F. Smith, Sr., officiating. Interment will be in the Camp Hill city cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the center from 12:00 p.m. (CST) until the funeral hour.  Public viewing will be at Vines Funeral Home, Monday, August 28, 2017 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. (CST).

Sonja was born on February 4, 1943 to the late Casby and Cathrine Jones at Martin Army Hospital in Ft. Benning Georgia.  She was a faithful member of Mt. Lovely Baptist Church, Camp Hill from an early age until her health began to fail.  Sonja attended Tallapoosa County Training School and graduated from Edward Bell High School in Camp Hill in 1961.  She served her town and community by becoming a licensed EMT and Defensive Driver and worked with the Camp Hill Volunteer Ambulance Service for many years.  She also had a passion for flowers and arts & crafts.

Sonja is survived by two daughters: Sharon Denise James, Columbus, GA and Lisa Rowe, Camp Hill; one sister: Juanita Johnson, Detroit, MI; one step-brother: Barney Harris, Camp Hill; one aunt: Willie Lee Chatman, York, PA; two granddaughters: Jessica Sheree James and Patrice Shavon Marbury both of Columbus; and three great grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.
