Funeral Notice

 

Mr. John Tom Ross, 90,  of Lanett died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika. Funeral services will be held at Greater Pine Hill Baptist Church, Penton on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. (CST) with Rev. Rodney Thomas, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Friendship #2 Baptist Church Cemetery, LaFayette. The remains will lie in state at the church from 12:00 p.m. (CST) until the funeral hour. Public viewing will be at Vines Funeral Home, Friday, October 13, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 6: 00 p.m. (CST).

Mr. Ross was born to the late Elbert and Elizabeth Boyd Ross on August 14, 1927 in Chambers County.  He married the love of his life Earnestine Holloway on January 12, 1951. A year later he enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served his country for two years.  In 1955, Mr. Ross relocated to San Francisco, CA and found employment with Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked several positions over the thirty years of service with the Railroad before retiring in 1985. For many years, Mr. Ross wanted to return to Alabama to live.  Finally in 2009, he and his wife, decided to return to Alabama where he purchased a home in Lanett.  Mr. Ross was known for his vibrant personality.  From rock-n-roll to blues, he loved all types of music and was no stranger to the dance floor.  He was always the life of any party.

Mr. Ross is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-six years, Earnestine Ross, Lanett; a daughter, Diane (Bill) Davis and a grandson, Billy Davis all of Bolingbrook, IL and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
