Funeral Notice

 

Mr. Jim G. Joiner, 73, of Roanoke died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Birmingham.  Funeral services will be held at Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church, Roanoke on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. (CST) with Rev. L. B. Houston, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery, Roanoke. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. (CST) until the funeral hour.  Visitation with the family will be Monday, February 06, 2017 at Vines Funeral Home, from 6:00 p.m. (CST) to 7:00 p.m. (CST)

Mr. Joiner was born in Randolph County on January 27, 1944 to the late Bob and Christine Joiner.   He was a member of Peace & Goodwill Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board and the Usher Board.  He was married to Roxie Pinkard Joiner for forty-five years and they had four children.  He graduated from Randolph County Training School and received a certificate from Opelika Technical School. Mr. Joiner also served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.  Mr. Joiner’s employment history includes working at West Point Pepperell and Candlewick Yarns.  He also served as a board member of ECHO/Community Outreach Services, Inc.  Mr. Joiner will always be remembered for his love of sports, traveling, watching westerns and different judge shows, discussing politics, and attending the RCTS reunions.

 Mr. Joiner is survived by her devoted wife: Roxie Joiner, Roanoke; four children:  Duon Joiner, Crystal Joiner, Demetrica (Jonathan) Harrison & Joci Taylor-Wright all of Roanoke; five grandchildren; nine siblings: Lucille Slay, Fairburn, GA , Nina Taylor, Ethel (William) Treadwell  and Leon (Allison) Joiner all of Roanoke Gertrude (Douglas) Mayers, Jonesboro, GA, Betty Ann (Marvin) Huffman, East Point, GA,  Elizabeth Perry, Decatur, GA , Catherine Wheeler, Columbus, Ohio, and George (Michelle) Joiner, LaGrange, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
